About

SUSTAIN

verb

1. to keep up or keep going, as an action or process:

Making changes to live a healthier lifestyle can be a difficult thing to do in today’s world. We are given more unhealthy food choices than healthy ones every day. With this blog I want to challenge the norm and provide you with food ideas, recipes and healthy habits that are sustainable no matter where you are in life. Lifestyle changes can be difficult but they are absolutely possible to maintain if you open your mind to change and give new things a try.

Most people believe that living and eating healthy is more expensive and more time consuming, but with planning and preparation I hope to show you that this assumption is false. It is actually more expensive to eat the processed foods that we have all become familiar with, not only in the short term with the cost of your groceries, but also in the long term by way of jeopardizing your health. Nevertheless, our goal for this blog is to share small yet significant changes that are easily maintained to create a long, healthy life. By choosing viable sources for your food, being prepared and keeping an open mind you will undoubtedly find that a healthy lifestyle is not only possible but also sustainable.

EAT

verb

1. to take into the mouth and swallow for nourishment; chew and swallow (food).

At SET, we believe health begins in the kitchen which is why food is the biggest focus for our blog. I always loved to cook growing up, from helping my mom in the kitchen to cooking for friends in college. But as I grew up and felt the pressures and time constraints of life, I lost the time and the passion to be in the kitchen- I got “busy”. Like many people do today, I had put my schedule in front of my health and I suffered for it. It wasn’t until I realized I had to make a change (HYPERLINK TO ABOUT ME) to become healthy that I found the time and passion again. And I found it in the best way; through eating whole foods.

Food is a tough subject for a lot of people because we hold it so near and dear to us. Food is personal. I want to be clear I am not here to tell anyone they are doing something wrong, rather I want to provide you with whole, healthy food ideas and lifestyle techniques to help you make the changes to become your best self, the same way I did.

I hate labels but if I had to put a label on the type of eating promoted in this blog, I would call it “Pegan”. Pegan is a hybrid of Paleo and Vegan that was discovered to bring the best of both lifestyles together to create a more sustainable eating style that reduces the restrictions accompanied with either of the diets and increases healthy food consumption. Both Paleo and Vegan diets have been seen as difficult to keep up with due to the strict guidelines. Pegan is basically the best of both worlds. It promotes a well-rounded, whole food, sustainable eating style, which is why we love it here at SET Lifestyle. To learn more about Pegan, read here.

THRIVE

verb

1. to grow or develop vigorously; flourish

The food we eat and everyday choices we make can cause us to either wither or thrive. I know what it feels like to wither and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. For most of my life, I was a generally happy and active person… until I wasn’t anymore. As my time in the kitchen decreased and my time in the in the drive-thru lines increased, I became sluggish, unmotivated and downright unhappy. I withered. By using food as my medicine and incorporating healthy changes into my life, I began to thrive. I gained confidence, happiness, energy, vitality and as a bonus, I lost weight!

My goal with this blog is for you to use the recipes, tips, tricks and techniques I am sharing to thrive in your own life.

LIFESTYLE

noun

1. the habits, attitudes, tastes, moral standards, economic level, etc., that together constitute the mode of living of an individual or group.

The primary objective through this blog that I want to get across is that I am not selling or promoting any kind of “quick-fix-weight-loss-solution”, I am inspiring sustainable lifestyle changes. These changes come in the form of daily habits, food choices, and training methods and they work together to create a way of living (hence: lifestyle).

Join us in discovering a better you, the way we have and continue to due at SET… Change is difficult but you are worth it!
