WHY you should give it a try:

Black Beans:

  • The black color of the seed coat is produced by 8 kinds of flavonoids that act as antioxidants in the body to fight disease and free radicals which can help reduce your risk of cancer.
  • The high amount of soluble fiber and protein keeps digestion moving at a steady rate which keeps the colon healthy, keeps you fuller for longer and regulates blood sugar to prevent spikes and crashes and has been proven to lower cholesterol.
  • High amounts of folate are great for prenatal health.

Cacao Powder:

  • The extensive properties of cacao are impressive. It can help relieve high blood pressure, cholesterol and has antioxidant properties that eliminate free radicals from the body.
  • Studies have shown that the flavonoids found in cacao help enhance mood, positively affect anxiety and combat depression.
  • The amount of copper found in the cacao has been used to treat copper deficiencies and can have positive effects on preventing disease such as anemia.
  • Great for helping with high blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, constipation, diabetes, bronchial asthma, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome and various neurodegenerative diseases.

Pumpkin Puree:

  • Pumpkins are high in a vitamins A and C. Vitamin A is great for eye sight while vitamin C helps to strengthen the immune system
  • They are also full of fiber which helps to keep you feeling fuller, longer and also keeps your digestion moving leading to a healthier colon.
  • Pumpkins lovely orange color comes from the same place that carrots and sweet potatoes get their orange glow- carotenoids. These antioxidants are known for their fight against cancer causing free-radicals in the body but they also may play a role in keeping skin wrinkle free.

Black Bean BrowniesWHERE to get the goods:

  • All of these ingredients can be found at your local grocery store but there are a few things to consider when buying.
  • For the beans: buying in bulk and soaking yourself is the most cost effective means but if you prefer to buy  the can, look for an organic bean that comes in a can with BPA free lining.
  • For the Pumpkin: I recommend making your own puree and freezing but, like the beans, if you prefer to buy a can look for an organic product that comes in a can with BPA free lining.
  • For the cacao: there is a distinct difference in cocoa and cacao. Cacao is a raw form and therefore will provide more of the benefits mentioned above than it’s counterpart, cocoa, which is the more highly processed version of the bean. If you cannot find cacao or just prefer cocoa, look for a product that is free of added fats, sugars and oils.

HOW to enjoy it:

  • These are a delicious and healthy dessert that anyone can and will enjoy! and I promise, they taste NOTHING like black beans.
