Sweet Potato & Black Bean Burgers

February 10, 2016 • By

Sweet Potato Black Bean BurgersIn my opinion nothing beats a great burger. It’s a fantastic all american food found at family BBQ’s and popular diners across the country. A burger, shake and fries, does it get more classic than that?

When it comes to a great burger there is one problem that I have come across over the past years.. the meat. As it has become overwhelming evident that the agriculture practices in our country are less than ideal, more americans like myself are becoming more skeptical about the sourcing of the meat we consume. Part of living the sustainable lifestyle I promote is finding good sources for all of our foods, especially beef. For my family I choose to purchase grass fed and local beef from small farms in my area but when that is not available or you simple don’t eat meat, these sweet potato and black bean burgers are a great alternative.READ MORE

7 Health Benefits of Fasting

January 25, 2016 • By

What is Fasting?

Derived from the Old English word fæstan, which means to fast or make firm; fasting is essentially about self development. These days, food is something that we as humans have readily available day or night but that is not always the way it has been. In hunter-gatherer times, just like eating seasonally, fasting was a way of life depending on the season or location of food at a given time. It was essentially built into the system of living since food was not always readily available, like it is today.READ MORE

Best Ever Slow Cooker Chili

I have a small confession to make and to many of you it may not seem like a big deal but to the rest, you may think I’m out of my mind. Ready? OK here it goes.. Out of the past 4 years of owning my slow cooker, I’ve used it a total of 10 times, maybe.

I know, I KNOW. I’ve been missing out. Like most people, I had the greatest intentions of using it weekly when I first made the purchase but somewhere between now and then, I kinda forgot. READ MORE

6 Ingredient Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms

January 13, 2016 • By

6 Ingredient Spinach Stuffed MushroomsSomething that I really enjoy is the ability to make delicious food quickly and with a few ingredients. I often hear that eating healthy is expensive or difficult but I love the opportunity to show people that what they are saying isn’t necessarily true. Take for example, these delicious and healthy spinach stuffed mushrooms that contain only six (main) ingredients and take about 30 minutes to make, and most of the time is spent in the oven. It took me a few tries to get this right but I was determined. And boy am I glad I stuck with it because these are GOOD.READ MORE

An Organized Life: Erin Condren

January 7, 2016 • By

Erin Condren ReviewIt’s a new year and you know what that means.. New Year’s Resolutions. I try to stay away from “resolutions” and instead I return goals that I feel need to be reset. One of the most important yearly goals that I tend to revisit is to stay organized! Life is hectic, between kids and careers and the in and outs of daily life there are many things that can get lost in the chaos and the rest can begin to pile up, quickly. While there are many tips, tricks and cool systems that can help to keep your home organized, I’m talking more along the lines of life organization. The goal is to keep daily life in order in hopes that it will lead to more time keeping the house in order. We can at least try, right?

Shave Brussels Sprouts Salad with Orange Vinagrette

I don’t know about you but between the binge eatings that happen during the holidays, I like to try to keep my diet as clean as possible (it doesn’t always work out that way but I really give it the ole college try).

Anyway, this week I happened to find myself with a large amount of brussels sprouts and created a yummy salad. I have no idea why I purchased some many of these healthy little nuggets but after making this salad, I sure am glad I did!READ MORE
